We took Emma for her medical check for her Visa today. They were basically just clearing her to be able to travel back to the United States. Emma fell asleep on me on the way to the center and the first thing they wanted to do was to take her picture for the Visa. She was half asleep for the picture. Emma was not a fan of the medical check. We went to three different stations to check different things and she basically cried through the whole thing. When we adopted Emma, we were going through a program that is for children with special needs. So, all of them have something wrong with them and they are not considered perfectly healthy. Emma's special need is that she is small. She was not on any charts as far as physical development. It really amazes everyone that she is in the special needs program, though, because other than being a little small, she is perfectly healthy. We are so blessed! We found out at the medical check that she is 16.2 pounds. She is a little peanut, but hopefully if we can get her to start eating some food, we will get her on an American diet and fatten her up. :)
When we came home from the check, we ate lunch at McDonalds with our friends. McDonalds is right across the street from our hotel and seems so easy for lunch. Lunch is what we struggle to figure out. Breakfast is always in our hotel at a buffet and dinner we usually go out somewhere. Breakfast is really cool because it is a huge place and pretty much everyone that adopts from China stays at this hotel, so when you go to breakfast, there are tons of white parents sitting there with their little China babies or older children. Lots of high chairs set up around the tables. There are some pretty amazing, wonderful parents here! Lunch we are scrambling to find some bread for peanut butter and jelly or something quick. Callie is less than thrilled about eating here. For lunch, she had french fries and ice cream and we thought, oh well. At least she is getting calories. :)
I will probably talk about our friends a lot because it seems like we do everything with them now. Their names are Jason and Melissa Hyrne, and they have Elsa (13) and Ava (7) and they just adopted Stella, who is 20 months. It's funny because like today, we were with them all morning and then we went to our rooms for naps and then we are planning to go to the pool right after nap. Something about adopting and knowing someone for the United States bonds you pretty quickly! They are very sweet people and I am so glad we have them to hang out with! Their little Stella that they just adopted is pretty much just terrified. She is so cute, but she just clings to them with these scared eyes all the time. The only time they have gotten her to laugh and open up is in the pool. We have seen tiny improvements in her, so it will be exciting to watch her open up hopefully over the next week.
Emma continues to be such a joy. We are seeing more of her personality every day. She is a silly girl and she smiles all the time. Just love her so much!!!
Tonight we ate at a restaurant that was very adventurous for all of us. Of course, Matt thought it was great. He met his match with Jason. I think he will eat anything like Matt will. Seriously gross! I will put on some pictures of our meal.
Most of the pictures are of when we went to the park yesterday. It was beautiful there! The girls are wearing shirts that say big sister, middle sister, little sister with their names on them. :) The last two pictures are what happens when locals see some white girls. They want to pose for a picture. Callie will never let them though!
What wonderful pictures. I have learned so much just following your experiences. Lori, you are a great writer!! I feel like I'm right there with you.
ReplyDeleteJust love seeing all the pictures and hearing about your journey! So thankful you all are having a blast with the Hyrnes!! Enjoy the pool!
ReplyDeleteHi there! We were in China (Guangzhou) same time as you and left on Sat. for the US. I forgot to get Melissa's contact info before we left and would love to touch base with her. If you have it could you pass my family's email address to her? It is kevmandy@msn.com. We adopted 2.5yo Joshua while we were there and had Lily (also 2.5) and Emma (14yo) with us! I recognized you from the blog, but not sure we got a chance to talk much since Joshua spent alot of time being sick. So neat to find your blog!
